Childcare Vouchers – Part 1
Today the annual window for enrollment into my company’s employee benefits opened for 2018. I faced the monumental decision whether to subscribe into the salary sacrifice scheme for childcare vouchers by Sodexo.
What is a childcare voucher?
If you don’t know what a childcare voucher is, start here. Do not delay as 2018 onwards, the childcare voucher scheme is being scrapped. Many families, including ours, do not qualify for the new scheme. Therefore, it is now or never!
Where can you spend the childcare vouchers?
However, because we are soon sending our son to an employer-affiliated nursery and the nursery fees would be deduced from our pre-tax income, we wouldn’t be able to use the childcare vouchers for nursery fees.
Therefore, we tried to find out where else these childcare vouchers could be used. From our understanding, these can be used for any summer camps, after school clubs for sports and music etc. To my utter disappointment, Sodexo doesn’t provide a list of such camps or clubs.
We called a few places where we have visited with Aaron before, and a few where we plan to enroll him in the near future. Even though the process for a nursery, a nanny or a club to join the childcare scheme is fairly straightforward , with the first step being registration with Ofsted, it seemed those that hadn’t already registered were unwilling to do so. Why that is the case is a complete mystery…
The search continues, as I have until the 6th of December to enroll into the scheme and to decide how much amount every month I want to spend on childcare vouchers. I shall continue this post in Part 2…
